This policy describes what data the Yomi (読み) iOS application handles and where it goes. The short version: your books live on your device, there are no accounts, no ads, and no tracking. The app sends a few anonymous usage counts, which you can turn off, and the text of your books leaves your device only when you ask for a paid AI feature.
Books you import (EPUB, PDF, TXT) are stored locally on your device. Reading them — including furigana and dictionary lookups, which are computed on-device — sends nothing anywhere. Deleting a book removes it and its generated audio from your device.
Two features send parts of your content off the device, and only when you explicitly request them:
This content is processed to produce the result and returned to your device, where it is stored (generated audio is cached locally and can be cleared in Settings). We do not build a library of your content on our servers. The third-party providers process the data under their own terms: ElevenLabs, Google, Cloudflare.
Subscriptions are processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat, which assigns an anonymous identifier to your installation and stores your purchase and entitlement state. That anonymous identifier accompanies paid requests to our proxy server so it can verify an active subscription; the verification result is cached server-side. We never see your payment details — Apple handles billing.
To learn whether Yomi works for the people who try it, the app counts a few milestones on your device and sends them to a small statistics server of ours. This is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Share anonymous usage statistics. While it is off, nothing is sent, and anything still waiting to be sent is deleted from your device.
Each of these milestones is sent at most once per installation:
enrolled: the first time the app runs with this feature.return_d1_7: whether you opened the app again on any of the seven
calendar days after that (returned or not_returned).own_import: your first import that is not one of the sample books,
and only its type (epub, pdf, txt,
web, paste or manga).own_play_7d: whether you first pressed Play on your own content
within seven days of that import (played or
not_played).own_first_play: what that first Play met: narration already saved
on your device, the Membership screen, or a new narration (cached,
locked or generate).own_first_generation: how the first narration of your own content
ended (saved, save_failed, failed,
interrupted, cancelled or
allowance_spent).Each milestone carries only its name and outcome, a calendar week (the week you first opened the app or, for the milestones about your own content, the week of that first import), and whether the app was newly installed or updated from an earlier version. Each request adds the app version and a format number. Nothing else is sent: no identifier of any kind (including the anonymous subscription identifier), no device model, operating system version, language or region, and nothing from your books, such as their text, titles, authors, web addresses, or the words you look up. The request carries no cookies.
Milestones wait on your device for at least six hours, and the app sends them at most once a day, so the time a count arrives does not line up with what you did. The statistics server runs on Cloudflare, which processes these requests on our behalf. It is separate from the server that handles paid features, and no identifier is kept in the statistics it records: each count is stored with the fields listed above and the time it arrived. As with any internet connection, Cloudflare receives the network address a request comes from in order to deliver it; the statistics do not include it. These counts are not used for advertising and are not combined with your subscription.
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
All network communication uses HTTPS. Paid requests are authorized against your anonymous subscription identifier server-side; API keys for AI providers never leave our servers.
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available at this page; the effective date above reflects the latest revision.
